17/26.- Pyramids tour, Saqqara, temple

We are now on the other side of the stepped pyramid of Zoser. At our right we have the funerary temple. In the photo you can see a tourist policeman and a souvenirs stand.

The tourists you can see in the photo are looking at a reproduction of the Zoser sculpture (the original one is in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo). This copy of the sculpture can only be seen through two small holes. These kind of sculptures were called serdab, and their purpose was to allow the ka of the pharaohs to communicate with the outside world.
