36/50.- Cairo, Egyptian museum

The Egyptian Museum is one of the main reasons to extend your stay in Cairo. It exhibits the world's biggest collection of Egyptian art.

The museum is located in the city center, in front of Midan Tahrir. In this area you will find the best hotels in Cairo: the Nile Hilton, the Ramses Hilton and the Cairo Sheraton. If you are looking for a cheaper option, you will also find many cheap hotels here.

Fortunately it is possible to take photos in the museum. You only need to pay for a small fee. If you want to take your video camera with you, again you will have to pay an exorbitant price.

It is possible to visit the museum in a few hours. But if you have enough time I would recommend to visit the museum twice. There is so much to see, that my tip is to visit one plant the first day and the second one the following day. You will appreciate the treasuries much more.
