Menu

On a hill in front of the "Palais des Nations" is the Red Cross Museum, another of the must do activities in the city.

Officially called the "Musée International de la Croix-Rouge et du Croissant-Rouge" (International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum), the museum uses interactive presentations to display the history of the conflicts that have taken place in the 20th and current century, and the actions the Red Cross took in order to help civilians and soldiers.

The Red Cross was an idea by a Geneva citizen,Henry Dunant, who, after having been caught up in a conflict in Italy, started campaigning for an international treaty that would help people injured in conflicts. Dunant's first international victory was the signing by 16 nations of the Geneva Convention in 1864. Soon after, international cooperation led to the creation of the Red Cross.
