In this picture you can see one of the conference rooms inside the UNO's palace. The origins of this International Institution date back from 1919, when the League of Nations was instituted. The "Palais des Nations" was built from 1929 to 1936, but unfortunately the institution it was built to host was unable to prevent World War II. In 1945, a new institution was born, the United Nations. Its Central Headquarters are in New York City. Here in Geneva, the organization hosts some of its sections. Most of them are dedicated to humanitarian aid and human rights support around the world.
Many important peace negotiations have taken place inside these walls. One of its most famous chambers is the Council Chamber, with frescoes by the Catalan artist Josep Maria Sert.
