27/42.- Geneva, the Land Mines Monument

Menu

On the way to the UN and the Red Cross Museum, or on the way back to the center, you will pass by this monument. It is on the "Place des Nations". If you do not know the story of this monument, you will only see a huge chair with a missing leg. But once you know the reason For this missing leg, the vision of this chair will be difficult to forget.

Actually, this is a monument against the use of land mines. The missing leg represents the thousands (millions?) of limbs that people (mostly children) will lose in countries where these insane arms were, are and will be used.

A monument to men's stupidity ... The sculpture sits in front of the UN's main entry gate. At least our world leaders have to see it every time they enter this international organization!
