48/50.- Near Brussels, Rouge Cloître
At the edge of the forest, very near Brussels, stand the remains
of a former Abbey, the “Red Cloister”, now painted
white. Over time, it has contained several cafés and
restaurants, a riding-school, and most recently an art centre
-- not inappropriately, since in the 15th century the Flemish
painter Rogier van der Weyden lived and worked there. The abbey
is flanked by a string of lakes where fishermen like to practise
their sport.
