Belgium is a country split in two by a language boundary. In Flanders, north of this boundary, Flemish is spoken -- a variety of Dutch with many regional variants. South of the border, in the Walloon region, people speak a Belgian variety of French, also with many local dialects. The national capital, Brussels, is enclaved within the Flemish region.

The major entry airport to Belgium is Brussels National Airport, located in surrounding Flanders. Belgium, and its capital Brussels, are also easlily accessed by train from other countries in the region.

Brussels

The capital of Belgium and home to many European Union institutions. Brussels is a bilingual city (Flemish and French) enclaved within the Northern (Flemish) part of Belgium.

Flanders

A tour of Flanders. Along the North Sea, the landscape with its polders is often reminiscent of the Netherlands.

Wallonia

In its present state, this virtual tour displays only a few aspects of the region, but gradually it will expand into a more comprehensive visit in 50 pictures. Please be patient.
