4/35.- Shangri-La, Ganden Sumtseling Monastery

On the left you can see one of the murals that decorate the main hall of the Ganden Sumtseling Monastery.

Local authorities are promoting Shangri-La as a new tourist destination. The city currently has several hotels, from cheap Chinese pensions to 4 star hotels. New hotel facilities will open their doors in the near future.

The best season to come to Shangri-La is late spring and summer. Because of the altitude, Shangri-La is 3,000 meters high, temperatures are low all year long. Winters are very cold. Snow is common in all seasons, even in summer. Pack warm clothes if you plan a trip to this area.
