3/35.- Shangri-La, Ganden Sumtseling Monastery
In the picture you can see the main hall of the Ganden Sumtseling Monastery, where more than 1,500 monks can sit to chant and meditate.
The monastery holds many
ancient treasures, such as
the scriptures written on palm leaves, the gold-covered sculptures of Sakyamuni, and the colorful murals painted by renowned lamas depicting the life of Buddha.
The monastery halls are lit with
incense
and yak butter oil lamps. The altars are permanently decorated with yak butter flower sculptures. They are offerings from locals during the cold winter.
