China is a country with an unlimited tourist potential. If you want to visit the country in detail, you will need a couple of years. If you do not have so much time, you will have to stick to one of the regions, or choose some destinations.

The best season to travel to Center and North China is Spring and Fall. Summer can be a little too hot. Winters are cold, windy and gray. The South can be visited anytime. In these pages I only feature a fraction of China, the 10 destinations you see in the adjacent map of China.

Traveling around China on your own is not easy. The best way to move around is the plane. Second best is the train.

People in China are very friendly and kind. The problem is that English is not widely spoken

Beijing

Beijing is huge and has many attractions. Among them there are four that nobody should miss: the Forbidden City, Tian an Men, The Summer Palace and the Great Wall. We will start our virtual tour in the Forbidden City.

Xian

Famous for its Terra cotta Warriors and for being one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China, Xian is one of the most popular destinations in China.

Shanghai

Shanghai is the most international and cosmopolitan city in China. This city on the east coast, known as the "Pearl Of China", captivates visitors from all countries. If you like new, hectic and fast developing cities, this is a city you should not miss. Although Beijing is the capital of China, Shanghai is the financial and cultural heart of this country.

Hangzhou

Located 120 miles southwest of Shanghai, Hangzhou is famous for its natural scenery. The West Lake in central Hangzhou is one of the most beautiful lakes in China, as you will see on this virtual tour, but Hangzhou is also popular among Chinese and foreigners tourists thanks to its temples and pagodas; its gardens and forests; and its silk and tea industries.

Zhouzhuang

The Venice of China, Zhou Zhuang is one of the ancient water towns in the Jiangsu province. It is 30 km southeast of Suzhou, and makes a good day trip from Shanghai.

 

Suzhou

Welcome to Suzhou, one of China's most attractive tourist destinations! Located only 50 miles west of Shanghai, the city of Suzhou is more than 2500 years old.What it is most famous for are its classical gardens, which now constitute a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Lijiang

Lijiang is an ancient town in the Southern province of Yunnan. Its traditional architecture attracts tourists from China and abroad. The town is also a meeting place for the ethnic minorities that inhabit this province.

 

Chengdu

Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan and the main gateway to this province. Tourists come to this city for three main reasons: to start a trip to one of the many destinations in Sichuan province, to taste the local spicy food, and to visit the Giant Panda Breeding Research Center.

Jiuzhaigou

Jiuzhaigou Valley is one of the most beautiful National Parks in the world. Currently it is one of China's local tourist top spots, but it is still to be discovered by most foreign visitors. Do not miss it if you like nature.

 

Shangri-La

Shangri-la has become a symbol for Orient exotism and luxury. In China there is a place called Shangri-la, northwest of Yunnan province (south of China).

On this tour I give information on the town of Shangrila, its monastery and other destinations in Tibetan Yunnan and Sichuan.

Litang Horse Festival

Litang, part of the ancient Tibetan province of Kham, is in the East of the Sichuan Province.

The Litang Horse riding Festival takes place every year at the beginning of August. During this unique festival, local Tibetan people meet to perform dances and to compete in the horse races.

Hong Kong

legendary cross-roads between East and West! Hong Kong is one of Asia's most fascinating and dynamic cities, entertaining approximately 14 million visitors a year. Although about 95% of its population of 7 million is Chinese, and Hong Kong returned to Chinese rule in 1997, a century-and-a-half of British rule and vibrant capitalism have also left their mark.
