Beijing, Silk Market
The Silk Market (Xiu Shui) used to be a street
market where locals sold their goods in stalls. Not long ago
the market was demolished, and a brand new building was built.
They offered the vendors stalls inside this several storey building.
In the Silk Market you will find great bargains. And do not get misled by its name, here you will find all kinds of wares: cashmere garments, shirts, jackets, leather goods, shoes, dresses, hats, and even watches. Prices are not fixed. Take a stroll in the market before you start bargaining. If you are good at negotiating, you can get most goods for almost a fifth of the first offered price.
The Silk Market is also famous for its fake
products. Although a big sign at the entrance warns visitors
about piracy, all major international brands are offered here
at incredible discount prices (of course most of them are fake).
I do not know how long this will last, but meanwhile foreign
tourists enjoy this real bargain.
