Perhaps the most dramatic of the museum's exhibits is this German World War II submarine, captured in 1944 and the only one of its kind on display in the Western Hemisphere. The exhibit leading up to the submarine itself is very well-done, telling the thrilling story of its capture. For an extra $5 fee visitors can tour the interior of the sub itself.
Other popular exhibits at the museum include the tour through a life-sized coal mine, a tour of the Pioneer Zephyr (a mid-20th century cross-country train), a huge model train set, a full-sized mock-up of a 1930s town "Main Street," a chick hatchery, and a hall full of farm machinery. There's also a large play area set aside for young children (though, annoyingly, it sometimes is closed to accommodate school groups).
