Chicago, Michigan Avenue
Adjacent to Millennium Park lies Michigan Avenue, perhaps Chicago's most famous street.
A
major north-south artery, Michigan Avenue is the site of the Chicago Water Tower (the only
public building to survive the Great Fire of 1871) and the Art Institute of Chicago.
The northern
part is known as the "Magnificent Mile" with its mixture of upscale department stores, fancy
retail shops, hotels, restaurants, etc.
