16/22.- Panama City, Kuna Indians

Menu

In the picture you can see two Kuna Indians. Most of the 35,000 Kuna Indians live on the Islands of San Blas, but in Panama City there is a small community. Most of them make their living selling Kuna handicrafts.

Kuna women wear their traditional clothes, even in Panama City. They wear colorful skirts, red and yellow head scarf, arm and leg beads, gold nose rings, earrings and a panel in their blouses known as molas. The lady in the picture is showing us a pair of handmade molas, one from the front panel and the other from the back panel.

Kunas have their own political system, and on the Islands of San Blas their own laws.
