Panama is a country that will surprise its visitors with its beautiful sights. From National Parks, to tropical beaches, from casinos to its cosmopolitan capital, Panama is a country to discover. When to Go/Climate: Panama is located in the tropic, and its weather is mild all year round. The country has a rainy season, in October and November, that affects mostly its Caribbean coast. But the country can be visited any time, because rains do not last long, and the sun shines almost every day. Get in: Close to the capital of Panama is the Tocumen International Airport (PTY). Panama can also be accessed by land from Costa Rica and Colombia. The country is also visited by many cruise lines. Get around: The best way to travel around is by plane, or on a rented 4-wheel powered vehicle. Money and Costs: The local currency is the Panamanian balboa (PAB). USD are widely accepted. Length of stay: You need a couple of days to visit the capital, Panama City, and a couple of weeks to see the rest of the country. Languages/People: 3 million people live in Panama. Spanish is the official language, but most of the Panamanians are fluent in English. Food: food is cheap and more varied than in the rest of the countries in the region. Safety: Panama is considered a safe country. North of of Panama is Costa Rica, a country with some destinations you may also visit if you ever go to Panama.

Panama City is the capital of Panama. The town has a modern financial district, and one old district that is currently being refurbished. From Panama City you can do a half day excursion to Miraflores, one of the Panama canal's locks. |
