9/22.- Panama City, Panama Viejo

The city of Panama was founded by the Spanish colonial administrator Pedro Arias de Avila in 1519. From here, de Avila led his expeditions to Peru.

In 1671 Sir Henry Morgan with his troops of pirates and buccaneers attacked and destroyed the city. The city was rebuilt in what today is known as Casco Viejo.

The ruins of Panama Viejo are 5 miles east of Casco Viejo, and they are one of Panama City's main tourist attractions nowadays.
