24.- Everglades, A
typical lake
Now you can see a
typical island with trees in the Everglades. The water
will be higher in the summer. Between June and September,
more than 70% of the rain falls on the Everglades. During
this rainy season, the Everglades also gives rain to the
rest of South Florida. In the morning the water
evaporates and creates large clouds. The clouds move over
the cities and drop 4 or 5 centimeters of rain in less
than two hours, then the rain stops. The air is fresh
after a storm and the vegetation is very green during the
summer in Florida. The grass that you see is called
"sawgrass" because the edge of the grass has little
teeth. If you move your finger on the edge, you can cut
your skin. Like a saw that cuts wood, the grass can cut
into your finger! Keep your hands inside the boat (if you
have expensive clothes or if you don't want your shirt to
be cut, don't sit on the outside seats!).
