20/50.- Red Sea, scuba diving, coral 2

Although formerly scientists thought corals were plants, it has been demonstrated that the corals that form the coral reefs are animals. During the day we can only see their shells, at night these polyps come out of their external skeletons to feed from plankton.

These tiny animals are the base of the life in the coral reefs. Fishes and all other animals feed on these polyps, or on the fishes that feed on them.
