Let's learn something else about the fascinating history of
Alexandria. After the death of Cleopatra,
Octavian increased the taxes as a punishment and moved
the capital of Egypt to Nicopolisiles, East of Alexandria. During
this period the first immigrants arrived to the city and new
Jewish and Greek communities were formed. In the following years
a new religion was introduced in the country:
Christianity. The first apostle of the new religion in
Alexandria was st markus, who died
in 62 AD while protesting against the worship of SerApis. More

and Saint Peter of Alexandria. The martyrdom lasted a couple
of centuries. In 312 the Roman emperor Constantine adapted Christianity
as the official Roman religion.
