Let's learn something about the life of one of the most famous
personalities in ancient history, the local queen: Cleopatra.
With the rise of the Roman empire
the local reign of the Ptolemies felt threatened; for this reason
they decided to ally with the Romans. This agreement lasted
for two centuries. A new problem araised when Julius Caesar
defeated the Ptolemies' guardian, pompey, in a duel. The beauty of the daughter of the king Ptolemy X II would change
history for ever. When Julius Caesar
arrived to Alexandria in 48 BC, he received the most famous
gift in history: an oriental carpet ... With Cleopatra
wrapped in. He could not help to fall in love with her, and
in the summer of 47 BC Cleopatra bore him a son, Caesarion.
A couple of years later Julius Caesar brought his lover and
his son to Rome. Local citizens did not accept this relationship
and in 44 BC Julius Caesar was killed. But the story of Cleopatra
does not end here.
