36/50.- Wall decoration in the Chapel of St. Barbara, Goreme

Menu

The chapel of St. Barbara of Nicomedeia (Iznik) is a cross domed chapel with two columns belonging to the Iconoclastic period. The symbols painted in the chapel are a classic example of the blend of Pagan and Christian cultures. Later work was added like the figures of Saint George, Theodoros, and St. Barbara. There is also a depiction of a Deesis on the left wall.
