Although not as touristic as other parts of the city, there is plenty to see in the area East of Central Station and North of the medieval centre.
The futuristic building designed by Renzo Piano houses the museum of science and technology NEMO. The Architecture Foundation ARCAM is yet another wonderful and original building worth stopping by, and so is the venue Muziekgebouw aan’t IJ, this building designed by Danish firm 3xNielsen also shelters the beautiful and high quality jazz venue BIMHUIS.
Also in this area, but not in a modern building like the previous ones, is the Nederlands Scheepvaartmuseum (closed for renovation until 2010), a museum about the history of Dutch seafaring.
