Around the "Place des Nations" are hundreds of office buildings that hold all kinds of international organizations. Here are a few that have their Central Headquarters in Geneva: the World Trade Organization (WTO), the International Telecommunication's Union (ITU), the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Labour (Labor) Organization (ILO), the International Meteorological Organization (IMO), the International Organization for Intellectual Properties (IOIP), the United Nation's High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and even Eurovision! The number of international institutions explains why more than 40% of the people who live in Geneva come from abroad.
In a park near these buildings is a wonderful neo-Renaissance building housing a museum honoring Ariana, the mother of the famous Swiss philanthropist, Gustave Revilliod. It's collection of more than 16,000 pieces of pottery makes this the most complete museum of ceramics and glass in Europe.
