Ninna-ji Temple is one of the most popular temples in Kyoto. Ninna-ji was founded in the 9th century as an Imperial Residence, but it soon became a temple.
Ninna-ji is a large complex, with many buildings and gardens. Among the most beautiful buildings are the five Storey Pagoda, the Niomon Entrance Gate, the Kondo Hall, and the Bell Tower. Most of the buildings are reconstructions of the old ones, from the 18th and 19th centuries.
Ninna-ji is in northwestern Kyoto, and can be accessed by public bus, or on foot from Ryoan-ji and Kinkaku-ji temples.
