Camargue: Flamingoes
The marshlands and other lakes and lagunas along the French Mediterranean
are the abode of flamingoes, whose colour varies from white through pink to
orange depending on the species of shrimp and crayfish they feed on. They
are a strange sight when they take off in large flights: when their long
necks and feet are stretched out in one direction, and their large wings in
the other, their bodies seem to disappear.
