42/50.- Brussels, the Tervueren Park
Brussels is linked to the park of Tervueren
by a centenary road that bears some resemblance to the Paris
Champs Elysées. The analogy is quite deliberate: King
Leopold II wanted to lend Brussels some of the prestige and
beauty of the French capital. The Tervueren museum, seen in
this picture, was to be his equivalent of the Versailles palace.
It used to contain the Colonial Museum, appropriately renamed
the Museum of Central Africa after Belgium lost its colony,
the Belgian Congo.
