As we have seen before, notably in the pictures of Colmar's Tanneries quarter, the plaster between the beams supporting the Alsatian half-timbered houses can be painted in many colours and shades, giving the towns and villages a joyful character. The mud in the foreground of this picture plays host to half a dozen of pigs.
