Suzhou, McDonald's Rickshaw
Although it is possible to walk between some of the attractions in Suzhou, in at least some cases
you are better off using a vehicle since the attractions can be a bit spread out. Moreover, even
though the gardens may be quiet, peaceful, and scenic the surrounding city is not. There's plenty
of heavy car and bike traffic, lots of ugly modern buildings, and noise everywhere. Fortunately,
taxis are plentiful and cheap. And if you prefer a more traditional means of getting around you
can try one of the many bicycle-rickshaws (pedicabs), like this one. (This photo is one of my
favorite blends of old and new, Chinese and Western: a McDonald's ad on a rickshaw!)
