Litang, Ganden Thubchen Choekhorling Monastery
Although Buddhism and monks in the monastery are respected by the Chinese authorities, there is some political tension in the region.
Some Tibetans in Litang have taken part in violent (very few) and non-violent actions to protest against the Chinese invasion of their country. Repression has been tough with some of the leaders being sentenced to death.
Some locals are suspicious about their monastery being sanctioned by the town's government. They do not trust the Chinese authorities. Anyway, pictures of their spiritual and political leader, the Dalai Lama, can be seen in the monastery.
