Hangzhou, Tiger Spring
On the south side of the West Lake, in the
side yard of the Huichan Temple, is the scenic spot of Tiger
Spring, or Hupao Spring.
The place is famous for its scenery and for
the taste of its waters. The history of the place dates back
to the Tang Dynasty, when a monk named Huanzhong lived here.
He planned to leave because of the lack of water. But one day
he was foretold by an immortal that soon two tigers would dig
a spring. Two days later two wild tigers did dig the place,
and a clean and sweet spring started.
Since ancient times Hupao Spring has been praised
by Chinese poets. Nowadays many local tourists come to Hangzhou
to taste the Dragon-Well Tea with Running Tiger Spring water.
