4/10.-Chengdu, Wenshu Monastery
The
Wenshu Monastery
was built at the end of the Tang Dynasty
(618-907),
and it was originally called Xinxiang Temple. The name was changed during the
Qing Dynasty (1644-1911),
after the cremation of a local ascetic monk, when the statue of
Wenshu
appeared in the flames.
The monastery is very popular among local Buddhists. Many of them come here to pray, and relax afterwards in the temple's gardens. In the complex there is a teahouse and a vegetarian restaurant. If you can, come here in the morning, visit the buildings, and have lunch in the restaurant.
