17/46.- Beijing, Temple of Heaven, Long Corridor

The main building in the Temple of Heaven, or Tiantan, is the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest. This temple has become a symbol of Beijing. Its image has been reproduced millions of times in brochures and Beijing travel guides. The building is considered a perfect example of Ming architecture.

One of the most famous aspects of this temple is that no nails were used in its construction. Following the local belief that heaven was round and earth square, the temple is round and the base is square. If you ever visit the interior of the temple, do not miss the ceiling. It is really beautiful.
