23/33.- Grand Canyon National Park, Colorado River

Menu

In this picture you can see the river Colorado. The brown color of the river is the result of the materials the river carries, eroded from the river banks.

Some people hike down to the river, but you must be in excellent hiking condition to do so. The trek will take you several hours. It should not be attempted to hike from the rim to the river and back in one day. Unless you have made reservations in advance, there is nowhere to stay at the bottom, do not attempt to hike to the river.

There is a trail down to the river west of Bright Angel Lodge. Go to the Visitor Center at Canyon View Information Plaza, to check the weather and trail conditions.

It is also possible to go down the river on a mule. Booking well in advance is recommended.
