44/50.- Rio de Janeiro, Carnival in Sambodrome

The Sambodrome is an Stadium built to host the carnival parades in Rio de Janeiro. An avenue, roughly 2 km long, with stands on each side. The seats are sold in sections, the price depends on the quality of the views. You should not buy one of the cheapest tickets, unless there are no others available. This will be the experience of your life, and you do not want to spoil it because of a bad view. To give you an idea of what the Sambodrome look likes, you can compare it to a Formula one circuit.

The Samba Schools in Rio take part in an official competition to choose the best in Brazil. On Saturday the less important Samba Schools, the second division ones, compete. The best from the Saturday parade will be promoted to first division next year. On Sundays and Mondays the best schools in Rio take part in the competition.
