4/26.- Pyramids tour, Gizah, the sphinx of Gizah

This is the famous sphinx of Gizah. It sits in font of the three pyramids. It is a sight we all have seen zillions of times throughout our lives.

The age of the sphinx is not known, probably it was built in the times of Kefren. As you can see the sculpture is not complete. The nose and the beard were destroyed a couple of centuries ago, when the troops of Napoleon found out that they were the perfect targets to practise with their weapons. I don't know what happened to the nose, but if you want to see the beard you will have to go to London (British Museum).
