27/50.- Cairo, old Cairo, traditional street market, fish

Not far from the Coptic Cairo, there is this picturesque street market. To get here, you have to cross the bridge over the underground, a few meters North of the Mar Giris station.

I am afraid not many tourists get here, because local people looked very surprised to see me with my camera. I really liked what I saw. This is the type of things you get to see when you get lost in a strange city.

Cairo is a very safe city. You shouldn't be afraid to venture in unknown zones. Violence is extremely rare. You have to be alert in crowded spaces (buses, underground, markets, etc.) though. Even safe Cairo is not free of pickpockets.
