Close to the blue mosque there is this cemetery.
Cemeteries have a different meaning in Egypt. Since the
pharaohs times, graveyards have not only been the place for
the deaths. It is a tradition to visit this places on holidays.
Many families have a small room where they can spend the night
close to their relatives' graves. And for more than five centuries
local homeless have used these rooms to live. The most famous cemetery in Cairo is the
North cemetery, where thousands of locals live. They
have electricity, water and gas. There's even a post office
there!
