Another temple that would have disappeared for ever under
the waters of the Nile with the construction of the high dam
is the Philae Temple. Thanks to
the international efforts, when the dam was built, it was dismantled
and reassembled some meters above the water level.
The temple, dedicated to the goddess
Isis, used to be on the Biga island. The first ruins
date back to the 26th dynasty, but most parts of the temple
were built during the Roman times.
The complex includes the vestibule of Nectanebos I, the temple
of the Emperor Hadrian, a temple of Hathor, Trajan's Kiosk (Pharaohs
bed), a birth house and two pylons that celebrate all the deities
involved in the Isis and Osiris myth.
The temple is not far from Aswan, to get there you can rent a taxi or buy one of the hotels' tours.
