28/41.- Alexandria, Midan Gomhuiyya,

Although Alexandria is known as the most modern and Western
city in Egypt, still some typical Egyptian scenes can
be witnessed in the center of this old city. This photo was
taken a few yards from the Gomhuiyya Square, one of the busiest
and most centric squares on Alexandria. And I thought the traffic
in my city was chaotic!
At the end of the 7th century the Roman empire experienced
its first difficulties, when Alexandria was conquered by the
Persian troops. Five years later
the Roman army would recover Alexandria from the Persian troops.
But this Roman domination of Alexandria (and the rest of Egypt)
would not last long. In 642 AD the Arab general
amr Ibn-el-'Aas peacefully captured Alexandria.
