Another example of Seljuk art and architecture is Karatayhan caravanserai east of Kayseri. In this picture you can see the main portal with its Kuranic inscription in Arabic script and the geometric decoration. Note the mukarnas or stalactite vaulting. We are actually on a three-day excursion to Mount Nemrut. Our first stop was this 13th century Seljuk caravanserai. We left Goreme village early in the morning. The nest stop will be Pinarbasi for a tea break then drive to Tekir for lunch. After a lunch with spicy kebabs and grilled fresh trout we drove to Kahraman Maras to have a famous icecream made of goat milk. Next we drove to Kahta where we spend the night in a three-star hotel.
