During the Middle Ages the city was invaded several times by Norman and Saracens troops. In the 17th and 18th century, with the opening of the commerce with America, Blanes underwent an expansion period. Since then the town has not stopped growing.
Nowadays the town of Blanes is undergoing another expansion period. By highway, Blanes is less than an hour away from Barcelona. A little too far to live here and work in Barcelona, but close enough for those who work in the metropolitan area. Prices are still not as high as in towns closer to the capital of Catalonia.
