1/37.- Welcome to Palmyra, Syria

The ancient city of Palmyra, located in central Syria, is the most important archeological site in this country, and one of its top tourist attractions.

Palmyra was already an important stop along the Silk Route that linked Europe with Orient when the Romans took control of it in the first century AD. For a couple of centuries international trade made of this one of the richest cities in the region. During this period several constructions were built.
