Menu

Todaji belongs to the Kegon sect of Buddhism. The temple's buildings were destroyed in the 12th and the 16th centuries. Most of today's buildings date back to the 18th century.

One of the most popular things in Todaji is a pillar with a hole in it. Kids and daring adults, go through it. It is said that the hole is the exact size of Buddha's nostrils. Going through the hole brings a healthy life and guarantees a place in Heaven.
