The best area to spot geishas is the Gion Corner, an area that has preserved its traditional shop houses and restaurants. If you do not see any geisha in the streets, you can go to one of the restaurants and have a dinner in the area, and be served by one of them. The experience will cost you several hundred dollars, though. If you do not want to spend a dime, go to one of the restaurants, and look through the windows, if you are lucky you may see a Japanese rich man with his geisha.
