36/40.- Verona, view from Ponte Scaligero 2

This Venetian domination lasted till 1796, when the French troops invaded the city. Soon after (1801) the Austrians invaded the city. The river Adige (the river that splits the city, yes the one you’re seeing) became the border between the French, who occupied the part we have at our left (where lies the city center) and the Austrians, who occupied the part at our right. Verona was part of the Napoleonic Empire between 1805 and 1814, and from 1814 to 1866 of the Austrian Empire. Finally in 1866 Verona joined the Kingdom of Italy.

We’ll now cross the river again and take a look at the 'ponte' (=bridge) from the other river side.
