14/35.- Venice, San Marco

The construction of the Basilica of Venice began in the 9th century, when two Venetian Merchants stole the remains of Saint Mark in Alexandria.

The Basilica’s main treasury is the ‘Pala d’Oro’, a Veneto Byzantine gold bass relief encrusted with precious gems. This is one of the most beautiful cathedrals I have ever seen. I hope you like it too. Now we are going to have a quick look at the Piazza San Marco --just in front of the basilica, at our right.
