2/26.- Ouessant, Penn Ar Bed

Ouessant can be accessed by boat (there are regular services from Brest and Le Conquet) or, more expensively, by small planes and helicopters. Despite the short distance, it takes a powerful boat to make the trip, for the currents are strong, fast, and treacherous. In nice weather, the trip can be a pleasant cruise. In rougher weather,when you're not used to being shaken and rolled by the waves, it takes a solid stomach to cross without a touch of seasickness. The boats that shuttle between the continent and the islands of Molène and Ouessant bring in tourists, of course, but also products and even cars, trucks, and building materials.
