3.- Kilkenny, Kilkenny Castle

Here we see Kilkenny Castle across the River Nore.  The castle was built in 1172 by the Anglo-Norman Strongbow.  Starting in the 14th century, the powerful Butler family took possession of the castle and lived in it up to 1935.  It is now owned by the people of Kilkenny who have beautifully restored it.
