43/50.- Tuscany, Piccolomini Library

One of the chapels hosts the Piccolomini Library, whose walls and ceiling are decorated with frescoes relating the life of the 16th-century Pope Pius II Piccolomini. The library itself contains a number of large handwritten books (missals and psalters) with colourful illuminations, some of which used gold foil in the figures. A few of them are on display.
