17/45.- Baux-de-Provence

The Baux de Provence fortress belongs to the Lords of Baux, who claim to be descendants of King Balthazar, one of the three Magi Kings who visited Jesus shortly after his birth.  Be that as it may, they were terrible warlords as well, who knew over the centuries how to exploit the characteristics of the relief to serve their strategic purposes.  The fortress, developed from the 12th up to the 16th century, hugs the hilltop and at places delves down into it.
